Why: I became obsessed with this brand when I first saw their alternative grain “tortillas” pop up in the refrigerated section of grocery stores. I did not have a physical need to avoid flour or corn, but I also was becoming more and more aware of how ingredients can affect our bodies and minds. They were certainly more expensive than the norm but gave them a try and haven’t looked back. I can honestly say I could eat a quesadilla or burrito, and feel better.
As the brand grew, so did their product offerings and I found myself more routinely buying their chips, one would say I am slightlyyyy obsessed. There are too many different types at this point, and I haven’t tried them all so I can’t speak to each. The Lime Tortilla chips are light in texture with a subtle hint of lime. The Churro tortilla trips are seriously addictive, not sweet, heavy on the cinnamon and a feel good treat I often indulge in.
The cherry on top for supporting this brand is in the story of how Siete Foods came to be. The founder, Victoria Garza, dealt with health issues for a lot of her life. She, along with her six family members (siete means seven in spanish), began learning about the ways that food can either heal or harm us.
Siete Food products seem to be everywhere these days, I’ve been able to find them at most major grocers including Whole Foods, Vons, Ralph’s, Sprouts, CVS and Target.
These are my three favorite Siete products and flavors:
(1) Lime Tortilla Chips, (2) Churro Tortilla Strips and (3) Mexican Shortbread Cookies
If you have access to a Trader Joe’s, they make a grainless chip that is pretty popular. While not as good as Siete in my opinion, it is sturdier (making it ideal for dips) and less expensive. Here’s what to look for:
